Norwegian Breakway History

After a one-off in France, Norwegian Cruise Line returned to Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany to order a brand new ship for delivery in 2013. Norwegian Breakaway is the first in a series and is a further development of NCL's 'Freestyle Cruising' concept. The ship was so succesful that after sister ship Norwegian Getaway, an enlarged version was developed and consequently ordered. With no less than 29 dining options, no fixed dinner seatings and no formal nights, Norwegian Cruise Line has perfected its product on this ship. Norwegian Breakaway was delivered by Meyer Werft on April 25, 2013. She did short shakedown cruises from both Rotterdam and Southampton before setting off to New York and later Miami, her new home ports.

Still, Norwegian Breakaway boasts a number of features that secures Norwegian Cruise Line's enviable reputation of being one of the true innovators of the cruise industry. ShipParade sailed on a two-night preview cruise from Rotterdam to "nowhere" and proudly presents Norwegian Breakaway in 100 photos!
