Seabourn Encore Interior Photos Text & Photos by Bart de Boer
On January 7, 2017, singer Sarah Brightman officially named Seabourn Encore during a festive evening ceremony in Singapore. Docked across from Seabourn Encore at the Marina Bay Cruise Center was fleetmate Seabourn Sojourn and at the naming ceremony guests from both ships mixed and mingled. It felt like a huge reunion party, with guests treating crew like long lost friends. It is all too obvious Seabourn is all about the personal touch. It is therefore good that the brand new 42,000 ton Seabourn Encore is an evolution rather than a revolution.

I visited the ship on the eve of her naming and found her very recognizable as a true Seabourn ship. Loyal guests will quickly find their way on board and will be all too pleased with the Jacuzzi on the bow, the familiar grand staircase, the excellent layout of the suites and the great views from the Observation Bar. Still, the change in design team for the new ship is noticable. Seabourn Encore's interiors have more curves and are less "Scandinavian modern" than her older sisters. It is in the areas that are new to Encore that main designer Adam Tihany's touch can be felt best. Up on top is The Retreat comprising of a number of luxury cabanas that can be rented for a hefty additional fee. Inside, look out for The Grill by Thomas Keller, a new specialty restaurant that is simply gorgeous. Dark woods, burgundy reds give the room an opulent, classic feel and I understand it is quickly turning into one of the most popular hangouts on board. Another new eatery is tucked away on deck 8. The Sushi Restaurant is done in off-white and has a minimalist feel to it. It opens for lunch and dinner and will definitely be a great alternative to the main dining room and buffet restaurant.

Die-hard Seabourn fans will probably be vocal when it comes to the slight design changes on
Seabourn Encore. On the ever popular Seabourn Square, the walls surrounding the guest relation desks have been removed. Some will like, others will not. The same goes for The Restaurant, which is arguably less grand but therefore feels more intimate than the main dining rooms of Seabourn Odyssey, Seabourn Sojourn and Seabourn Quest. All in all, the design team has managed to create a ship that is instantly recognizable as part of the Seabourn family, but introduces some subtle innovations at the same time.
